Frequently asked questions

Black Friday originated in the US, where it traditionally marked the first day of the Christmas shopping period – the day after Thanksgiving. With many schools and offices closed for the holiday, people would take advantage of the long weekend to head to the shops. In recent years, it’s become increasingly popular in other countries too.

Black Friday 2024 will take place on Friday 29th November 2024.

Black Friday is only one day, but that doesn’t mean you’ve only got 24 hours to find a bargain. As the sale has become more popular, Black Friday discounts have extended for up to two weeks. Some sales start before Black Friday and some keep going until after Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday is the Monday following Black Friday – in 2023 it’s on Monday 27 November. Cyber Monday has been around since the mid-2000s and it’s the online equivalent of Black Friday, with lots of online retailers putting on sales. Like Black Friday it started in the US but is now popular around the world!
